Heavy Fighting and Internet Disruption as Ethiopia Conflict Rages

Ethiopian forces battled overnight to repel an assault by Tigray rebels in the Afar region, a humanitarian source said, according to a report. There were also reports of an internet blackout in the north of the country.

Rebels in the northern Tigray region seized local airports, the report said. The renewed conflict has seen the TPLF build alliances to challenge the government of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The reports could not be independently verified.
